Getting Lost in Oia, Santorini

Up until last year, I had never heard of Santorini and those famous whitewashed buildings and blue domed churches everyone raves about. Like most, as soon as I saw pictures I knew immediately, this place had to go on my travel bucket list.

For those who don’t know about Santorini, it is one of a group of Greek Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea, formed after an enormous volcanic eruption thousands of years ago. Millions of visitors flock to the island each year for the caldera view and the infamous sunsets. Needless to say I nagged my boyfriend constantly till he finally agreed that we could go.

Oia is on the northern tip of the island and in my opinion the prettiest place on Santorini. The best times to wander and get lost in the beauty of this place is early morning, where the streets are your own. The rising sun, low in the sky casts a most ethereal light on the buildings which has to be seen to be believed.

Everywhere you turn is picture perfect and you cant help but grab your camera and snap away. I don't think any picture can do justice to the beauty you see here however, I tried my darn hardest which was evident from the number of pictures taken.

We wandered and got lost down pretty cobbled paths and discovered secret corners the guide books don't tell you about. Flowers frame pretty doorways and you can't help think Oia was built with perfection in mind.

Oia is the epitome of a postcard village. Its unique setting is what make its stand out to any other Greek island, with both modern and natural beauty perched against an incredible volcanic scenery.

Santorini really must be experienced at least once in a lifetime.

I will round up places to see, things to do and eat in the next few posts.

Let me know if you’ve ever been and what you thought?
