Christmas Afternoon Tea: The Westbury Hotel

I know, I know, you are thinking why the hell are you posting anything Christmas related in AUGUST! Please, please hear me out, as you won't want to miss this.

If you are a fan of afternoon tea, then this is definitely a must, made even more special with a Christmas theme. So why am I telling you this now, I hear you ask...? Well, in the next few weeks The Westbury Hotel will start taking bookings for their Festive Afternoon Tea and spaces WILL book up quick, so quick it's even worth putting you name down on the waiting list NOW.

What makes this afternoon tea, extra special is the elegant surroundings of The 5* Westbury Hotel. You take tea in The Gallery where you can enjoy the elevated views out to Grafton street and soak up the festive atmosphere. The hotel is tastefully decorated with beautifully hung wreaths, giant Christmas trees and decorations, while you sit back and relax while being entertained by the classic Christmas songs playing in the background.

If you can, make sure you ask for a table by the window, it is simply stunning.

From the moment you take a seat in one of their sumptuous chairs you can feel this is going to be a truly indulgent experience.

Before we received the main event, we were given little shots of mulled wine, perfect for getting my friend in the festive mood and the unlimited supply of silver teapots filled with tea and coffee were very welcome for the non drinker like me.

The great thing about the menu is you can try different fragrant teas from around the globe and if you are a little stuck, then they have a Tea Master on hand to give their recommendations on what they think you will like and of course plenty of coffee if its not for you.

We went for the Traditional Afternoon Tea (€45) but if you are feeling extra fancy, why not make it a Champagne Afternoon Tea (€55).

You won't be waiting too long, before you are presented with three layers of pure heaven.

Starting from the bottom up, every mouthful was honestly delicious.

I know it may sound controversial but the middle layer is my favourite, to me nothing beats warm scones smothered with a thick layer of clotted cream and berry preserve (the Devonshire way of course), I suppose you can take the girl out of Britain but you can't take British out of the girl.

Last but not least the top layer of incredible deserts, all beautifully presented and individual in taste. We were actually defeated in the end and The Westbury were kind enough to pack our leftovers into goodie boxes and send them home with us.

Although a little pricey (since increased to €47) compared to other institutions in Dublin, I think you do get what you pay for here. The food and drink is of top quality, service is impeccable and not forgetting the beautiful surroundings, you do feel truly spoilt.

Whether you are spoiling a loved one or having a girly afternoon with friends, this will certainly get you in the festive spirit.

Have you had afternoon tea here before?
