I love reading but often when I have finished a book I would pass it on to a relative/friend or onto a charity shop so someone else could enjoy them. It had never crossed my mind to keep them and build a collection until I laid my eyes on these incredible covers designed by one of my favourite illustrators Anna Bond.
I was excited to hear Rifle Paper Co. had collaborated with Puffin in Bloom to illustrate four children's classics, Little Women, The Little Princess, Anna of Green Gables and Heidi. The illustrations (initially hand-painted by Anna) on the front and inside the hardback cover are simply stunning and the use of gold foil make an aesthetically pleasing addition to any bookshelf.
I have always wanted to read Little Women ever since Joey in 'Friends' hid the book in the fridge and I can totally relate to why he did what he did, that being said, I absolutely loved the story. Each book as a unique tale and a mini heroine/s at the centre, its hard to choose a favourite. All these books are aimed at a younger audience but as they are classics they really do span a generation and can trigger the child within.
Last year, I made a conscious effort to read more classics. There are still so many I haven't read but I am slowly ticking them off my bucket list. I am hoping one day I will have a well curated collection of classics that will hopefully be loved and cherished for years to come and if they are as beautiful as these additions, then I think my collection will grow in no time.
Next on my list is 'Alice and Wonderland' illustrated by Rifle Paper co. and the Penguin clothbound classics, so watch this space.
Have you read any of these classics?
